Gum treatment – Periodontics

Periodontics is a branch of dentistry which concerns the treatment of diseases of the tissues supporting and surrounding the teeth. Gum disease or periodontitis is the primary cause of tooth loss, unpleasant breath, bleeding, swelling,and redness of the gums.

Gum disease – symptoms

Depending on the stage of the disease, the following symptoms may occur:

  • Spitting out blood when brushing or flossing your teeth,
  • Loose, shaky, drifting teeth,
  • Painful chewing,
  • Recession of gums resulting in longer teeth and exposed tooth necks,

Regular dental examinations is very important because it is possible to have gum infections without the usual signs and symptoms. If you notice any symptoms of periodontitis, make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. The sooner you seek care, the better your chances of reversing damage from periodontitis.

Subgingival scaling is performed when you need to remove the deposits of the tartar, which was located on the roots of teeth. It is performed under local anesthesia.

Dental curettage

Dental curettage – cleaning of the gum pocket. This is very important procedure in periodontal treatment and reducing receding gums.
